What's the difference between changing trains and splitting the journey?
Changing trains means that you have to get off the train you’re on and get onto a different one.
Splitting your journey means you have separate tickets for different sections of your journey. You can stay on the train unless your journey requires you to change onto a different service. The train you’re on must stop and pick up/set down passengers at all the stops where your journey splits.
Why are tickets not offered for my journey?
Not all journeys or ticket types will be available for split ticketing. Where it is available, you’ll see the Split Ticket options at the top of the search results.
Why are there lots of split tickets for the same service?
The other prices listed reflect splits at different stations, or a varying mixes of tickets, e.g. one may offer Advance and Anytime, while another offers Anytime and Off-Peak.
Do I need to get off the train?
You don’t normally need to leave the train unless there is already a change in your journey and you are catching a different train.
Can I still reserve seats?
You can still reserve seats (where available), but a seat will be booked for each ticket.
This may mean you’ll need to change seats when switching between tickets. For example, you are travelling from Edinburgh to Leicester with a split at Sheffield. If each ticket has a different seat reservation, you will need to change seats at Sheffield.
You can see seat reservations for each split on the LOGiC booking confirmation and on your tickets.
If I split my journey will it be cheaper?
Splitting your journey does not mean it will be cheaper than purchasing a normal ticket. However, it does mean that you can use different ticket types across various parts of your journey, e.g. a Peak ticket on one part of the journey and an Off-Peak on another part. This may come with savings, but National Rail do not guarantee this.
Why can't I get my split tickets on the mobile app?
Split Ticketing is only available for physical paper tickets on LOGiC.
Why are other websites offering different splits for cheaper prices?
While there are now many websites that provide different split ticket options, Inntel offers split ticketing via our rail provider, Silverrail.
LOGiC’s Split Ticketing feature has been accredited to the Rail Delivery Group’s (RDG) industry standards. Prices reflect this and are not like for like with other websites who may use different algorithms to split journeys.
I'm not seeing Split Tickets for my route, why is this?
If you’re not seeing split tickets for your journey, it could be because:
- The route doesn’t support split tickets
- Some of the tickets that make up the split are sold out
- A regular (point-to-point) ticket is already cheaper
Split points can also change day to day, depending on what tickets are available. The system always picks the cheapest option overall.
I didn’t get a seat reservation for all or part of my journey. Can you book seats offline for me?
We are unable to book seat reservations offline for split ticket journeys.
What if I want to cancel or exchange my tickets? Can I still do that?
There are more restrictions on cancelling split tickets, so please make sure you familiarise yourself with these before you book.
It is not possible to exchange split tickets, so if you think you may need to change your journey, a normal Advance Single may be a more suitable option.
We recommend reading our section on cancellations in the Split Ticketing Guide for more information.
How do I cancel one of my tickets?
The rail industry do not allow individual split tickets to be cancelled to prevent fraud.
All tickets on an outbound or return journey will need to be cancelled and rebooked. If one of your tickets is an advance, you will be unable to cancel the booking or exchange the tickets.
I want to cancel just my outbound journey, can I do that?
Provided all your outbound tickets are singles, unused and flexible (i.e. not Advance or return tickets), you can cancel the outbound journey prior to 23:59 on the date the tickets become valid. All the tickets on the outbound journey will be cancelled.
